When we developed the Nürburg in 1928 as the first Mercedes with special protection, we invented a principle which remains valid to this day: factory-integrated protection. Between the Nürburg and the S-Guard lie some eight decades of continuously augmented protection and development expertise. Without this tradition the S-Guard, E-Guard and G-Guard would not be possible. Eight decades of research and further development in close cooperation with internationally recognized authorities for the purpose of offering the highest possible protection in the face of constantly mounting threats. For Mercedes-Benz Guard, building special-protection vehicles which point the way ahead is an 80-year-old tradition.
Whether ballistic tests, crash tests, or modified electronic control systems – changes required for special-protection purposes are literally spelled out in the specifications book for a Mercedes-Benz Guard. This principle is termed integrated protection.
Perfectly concealed under the skin of a standard car is a network of protective components which make Mercedes-Benz special protection vehicles safe houses on wheels.

Selected for a specific purpose, integrated for a specific purpose: materials which selectively reinforce the body structure and protection-affording combinations of steel, glass and plastics.
Patently intelligent: ingenious design and overlapping systems provide particularly effective protection at especially critical points.
Mobile in an emergency too: special run-flat systems see to that. Even if the tyres completely deflate.
Special glass with important properties: high strength, plus splinter-proofing owing to a layer of polycarbonate on the inside.
Special suspension: specially reinforced components and even a full suspension redesign ensure the safety and ride comfort of a Mercedes despite a weight gain of as much as 70%.
From ESP® to ABS: the electronic control systems in a Mercedes-Benz Guard are reprogrammed. They reflect precisely the added weight and the handling characteristics this gives rise to.
PRO-SAFETM included: the S-Guard, like the new S-Class, offers optimal vehicle safety, but also high safety in traffic.

In the closely guarded manufacturing facility, on a dedicated production line, in fine-tuned interaction between skilled craftsmanship and state-of-the-art technology, a steel shell is manufactured that makes the occupant compartment of your Mercedes-Benz Guard a protective cell. Thus, in bodyshell production a completely independent vehicle design, able to withstand exceptional loads, extreme loads, is created. Particularly those places which will no longer be accessible later on are fitted and reinforced with strong protective components.
And in every phase, specialists ensure that the particular requirements of special protection are implemented and the Mercedes-Benz promise of quality is kept.
